So I’ve been feeling a little sorry for myself recently because I’m growing older and starting to experience strange ailments like grey hairs in my beard and this startlingly bad new development where my left knee hurts all the time. Specifically when I swim or bike. I resigned myself to the fact that, as Louis C.K. says, that shit just happens when you turn 40.
But then I looked down at how I was sitting, how I always sit, how I’ve probably been sitting for over 10 years now, and realized - that position can’t be good for my knee. I mean, I ALWAYS sit like this. I can’t sit any other way really. Or at least I haven’t tried to. I’m going to try to sit straight up. And I hope my knee bounces back to some less painful version of its former self.
Otherwise, getting old still pretty much sucks.
You’re probably more athletic than most, if your swimming stats are any indication.
After passing that magic number I started to notice slightly longer recovery times from injuries and overindulgences. And more women looking through me instead of at me. Those are the only differences so far.

I sit with my leg tucked under me. Probably why I have lower back pain. Regardless, getting old blows.

I do that to my left ankle. Been sitting on it for 30 years. No wonder it hurts.

As an elder, past the age of 40, who also sits this way, mostly because my feet don’t reach the floor, tried changing how I sat, but then my feet would swell from dangling, or keeping my legs straight was just uncomfortable. So, I still sit like that.
