A video clip of Aretha Franklin filling in for Luciano Pavarotti at the 1998 Grammy Awards is going around after an NPR story mentioned it this evening.
I don’t know anything about opera or if many popular singers can hold their own with famous tenors. I’ve always enjoyed this lovely 1992 collaboration between Pavarotti and another person in that 1998 video clip, Sting. During a few parts of the song Sting sounds he is in a studio double-tracking vocals instead of singing live.
The song, Panis Angelicus, can be found on the album Pavarotti & Friends.
